Four Hot Hatches That You Should Consider Buying

Hot hatches have gained immense popularity over the last decade. A hot hatch is a sporty version of its more practical counterpart, a hatchback. It is enjoyable to drive with firm suspensions, playful chassis, and peppy turbocharged engines. With so many options available, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. If you’re currently in the market for a car, here’s a quick run-down of four hot hatches you should consider purchasing.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

With a standard 241-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine, the Golf GTI is an excellent choice for anyone wanting great performance at an affordable price. The peppy engine offers enjoyable acceleration and has excellent throttle response. Its manual transmission is impressive, but the automatic optional dual-clutch provides sharp shifts and doesn’t sacrifice fun.

The GTI offers nimble handling around corners. While some hot hatchbacks demand drivers to compromise comfort for performance, the GTI doesn’t. Besides being fun to drive, the GTI is comfortable, refined, and smooth. Although the GTI is small, its total cargo space amounts to 34.5 cubic feet.

Hyundai Veloster N

Hyundai has entered the hot hatchback market with its new Veloster N model, and it takes Hyundai’s performance image to new heights. The turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine in the hot hatchback produces 275 horsepower. While the Veloster N is sharper than most hot hatches around corners, its adaptive suspension is extremely firm, resulting in a choppy ride. This can be fixed by putting the suspension into its softest setting.

Volkswagen Golf R

Compared to the GTI, the Golf R is even more powerful with all-wheel drive. This hot hatch pumps out 315 horsepower with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Its standard all-wheel drive makes it an all-weather champion.

The Golf R is more refined than other hot hatchbacks. It is quiet, comfortable, and can accommodate up to five people. It also has an impressive cargo capacity. The adaptive suspension keeps the Golf R tight on a good winding road and supple on rough roads. Another one of Golf R’s strengths is technology. Volkswagen offers a host of standard driver-assist features and its excellent Digital Cockpit system.

Mini Cooper Hardtop

The Mini Cooper is designed in a way that sets it apart from other small cars. While it might lack functionality in comparison to others, it covers up in performance and personality. The cabin includes unique features like aeronautically inspired gauges and a touchscreen embedded in an oversized bezel. It comes with a standard turbocharged 3-cylinder engine that produces 134 horsepower.
